Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024He began his studies at the National Theatre School of Denmark at the age of 27. He graduated in 1995. Apart from his performance in The Killing's drama series which he was a part of, he also appeared on Borgen III, a Danish drama series. He also had a leading part in an episode of the BBC drama Sherlock as the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. He played the president of Russia in House of Cards, an American television series. He won an International Emmy Award in 2018 for his performance in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje, which was broadcast in the UK in 2019 under the name Ride Upon the Storm.In addition to his home country of Danish, Mikkelsen speaks fluent Swedish, German and English and has learned different accents. According to Mikkelsen his sources, he was taught English from his brother by listening to Monty Python recordings and watching the comedy sketches.
